Inspiring A New Era of Confidence Both On and Off The Court

Mielle Organics is more than just a haircare brand; it's a movement. As beauty standards continue to evolve, Mielle is the first-ever official textured hair partner of the WNBA, a historic move that reflects how the sports and beauty industries are transforming to embrace diversity. Ensuring that female athletes have access to quality products allows them to focus on winning championships without compromising their performance or authenticity.

CEO of Mielle, Monique Rodriguez, and co-owner of the Atlanta Dream and former WNBA player, Renee Montgomery, came together to discuss how they’ve reshaped the perception of their own beauty over time and how they are inspiring the future generation of young women and girls to love their true selves despite the color of their skin, the texture of their hair, or shape of their body.

Mielle’s partnership with the WNBA is more than just a business deal; it symbolizes a broader movement toward embracing diversity and empowering individuals to feel confident in their natural hair. Mielle is passionate about encouraging consumers to embrace their natural beauty and athletes reflect this vision. Whether they’re sweating it out on the tennis or basketball courts, athletes represent beauty in its most bare, authentic form. Mielle will continue to build similar partnerships in the future, ultimately redefining what beauty “is.”

When talking about her company’s mission, Rodriquez explains that it was founded to “empower, excite, and educate.” Her goal is to “serve and over serve the underserved,” which means representing people often overlooked by traditional beauty norms. “It’s not normal to necessarily see an athlete in the beauty sector, but our goal is to change that narrative and normalize it because everyone deserves an opportunity and a seat at the table,” she says.

Advocating for the acceptance and celebration of textured hair and offering advice on how to look beyond physical appearances, Rodriquez and Montgomery delve into the importance of inner beauty, urging others to embrace their individuality and find their confidence.

“When I was young, what I thought was beautiful was very long, straight European hair,” shares Rodriguez. “Now when I look at beauty, I look at the soul, character, and integrity of a person. I look within to see their inner beauty before I look at them on the outside.”

Montgomery has noticed a shift happening, too. As a Black athlete, she rarely saw people who looked like her on the cover of magazines or as the face of beauty brands. She realizes now that people want to be and look strong and powerful. “These bodies and these women–this should be the standard.”

In a world where authenticity and representation matter more than ever, Mielle’s partnership with the WNBA is a significant stride towards a more inclusive and accepting future. It’s a call to action and the message is clear: Your hair is your crowning glory. It’s time to wear it proudly.
